His newly launched black comedy on politics “Newton” has got official entry in the list of Academy Awards in 2018. The actor announced the exciting news through a tweet on the micro blogging site Twitter.
He tweeted, “Very happy to share this news that ‘Newton’ is India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. Congratulations team.”

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who has earlier worked with Rajkummar Rao in the movies ‘Shahid’ and ‘Aligarh’ also expressed his happiness through Twitter. Simran director Hansal Mehta, who is also a good friend of Rajkummar Rao wrote, “Newton is India’s entry to the Oscars. The best choice in years by the federation.”

He continued his wishes for his friend and posted another tweet saying, “If films like ‘A Separation’ and ‘Children of Heaven’ made it to the Oscar nominations so can ‘Newton’. It is our best shot. Manish Mundra go for it!”

Directed by Amit Masurkar, “Newton” is a story of a young government clerk who gets posted in Maoist-controlled area for election duty. It shows the ideological struggles he goes through and the awkward situations he faces to honestly perform his duties.
The movie got released on September 22, 2017 and got the nomination for the Oscars within a few hours of release.
