Documentary ‘Writing with Fire’ in the run for Oscars 2022 under Best Documentary Feature category
Writing with Fire documentary directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Gosh is nominated for the 94th Academy Awards.
Another happy moment for India, as Writing With Fire has been nominated for an Academy Award or an Oscars 2022 awards in the category of Best Documentary Feature at the 94th Academy Awards. The Academy’s official Twitter feed announced the news.
The documentary ‘Writing with Fire’ depicts the tale of the rise of Khabar Lahariya, India’s only Dalit women-run newspaper. It is directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh.
Meanwhile, Ascension, Attica, Flee, and Summer of Soul are among the other nominees in the category (Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised). Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan announced the nominees on Tuesday evening.

The Suriya-starrer “Jai Bhim” was also nominated for the best picture award, but sadly it was not chosen for the final night.
The film made its international premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where it received two awards: the Audience Award and a Special Jury Award: Impact for Change in the World Cinema Documentary category, produced by Ghosh and Thomas’ Black Ticket Films. The award ceremony will be taking place on March 27.
